Building New Worlds
Location scouting was a huge part of this project! We wanted to give the illusion that faybee and l.ucas were stuck in a maze. After bonding over our shared love for brutalist buildings we found UMASS Dartmouth, and architect Paul Rudolph’s designs to be the perfect backdrop and inspiration for the “Fair” music video’s labyrinth.

hanging conversation pits like these were so cool! but a lot of them were blocked off because of structural damage.
we visited the campus ahead of our shoot to document where the light would hit certain structures and at what time.

this alcove is seen in the video when faybee is performing. We wanted this shot to feel like faybee was a pin ball stuck in the corner of a maze. In the scene, the camera rotates, as if someone if moving the labyrinth that faybee is stuck inside.

the sunlight constantly changed the shapes of light and shadow throughout the building. so cool!

photos do not do this building justice! the scale is amazing in person.

this stairwell was used to show l.ucas moving through the maze -- the two of them moved through different avenues, but existed in the same space.
we used these floating conversation pits to show dimension in our video. At one point we see faybee and l.ucas--- sitting in separate parts of the labyrinth -- finally in frame at the same time, although never fully crossing paths.

the LIGHT come on... so beautiful. i could film here all day!
